A comprehensive second opinion from an HVAC technician who isn't trying to sell you the work.
If you've been given an expensive repair estimate, told your system needs to be replaced, have questions about your equipment, or simply want another technician's perspective, Second Service gives you an independent set of eyes before you make the decision.
I'm Cameron, an EPA-608 certified HVAC technician with around 10 years of experience working with residential, commercial, and industrial equipment.
For $25, I'll review your situation and the information you already have. I'll explain what I think the available evidence supports, what concerns me, what may be missing, and what questions I'd want answered before spending the money.
No equipment sales. No commissions. No incentive to sell you a repair or replacement.
I review your information before accepting payment. If I don't believe I can meaningfully help remotely, you don't pay.
1. Send me your information. Email me your quote, invoice, diagnosis, questions, photos of the equipment where safely accessible, and any other relevant information you already have. Your first name (or whatever you'd prefer I call you) and your state are also helpful, but optional.
2. I review it before accepting payment. I'll review what you've provided to determine whether I believe a remote consultation can meaningfully help. This initial review is only to determine whether I can help and there is no charge for it.
3. If I can help, the consultation is $25. I'll send you a secure payment link. If I don't think a remote review will be useful, I'll tell you instead.
4. You receive my assessment by email. I'll review your situation in detail and explain what I think, any concerns or possible alternatives I see, and questions you may want to take back to your contractor. Consultations are generally completed within 1 day after payment.
You don't need to know exactly what to ask. If something about your HVAC system or a contractor's recommendation doesn't sit right with you, send me what you have.
I can review repair estimates and invoices, replacement proposals, contractor diagnoses and recommendations, equipment information, photos, technician notes, and general HVAC questions.
Depending on the situation, I can help you understand whether the proposed work makes sense based on the available information, identify what may be missing, discuss possible alternatives, and help you figure out what questions to ask before approving expensive work.
I won't pretend I can determine something remotely when I can't. If your situation requires testing, measurements, or an onsite inspection to answer responsibly, I'll tell you.
Second Service is a remote service. I cannot physically inspect or test your equipment, verify its condition or safety, or replace an onsite diagnosis when one is necessary.
Some questions may require measurements, testing, or an onsite inspection before they can be answered definitively. A remote consultation can still help identify what information may be missing and what questions may be worth asking your local technician.
Photos, model and serial information, thermostat information, existing technician measurements, estimates, invoices, and other information that is already safely available are generally enough to get started.
You will never be asked to open equipment panels, perform electrical testing, bypass safety controls, handle refrigerant, work on gas piping, or perform potentially dangerous service procedures just to provide information for me.
Second Service does not provide step-by-step instructions for repairs or part replacement that could expose you to electrical, refrigerant, gas, combustion, or other safety hazards. I can help you understand what a repair involves and what questions to ask, but I won't remotely guide you through potentially dangerous service work.
Second Service is not an emergency service. If you smell gas or burning, have a carbon monoxide alarm, see smoke or signs of fire, leave the affected area and contact the appropriate emergency service or utility. For other suspected immediate safety hazards, stop using the equipment and contact a qualified local professional. Do not wait for a response from Second Service.
I review your information before accepting payment to make sure I believe I can meaningfully help. If, after accepting your consultation, I determine that I can't provide useful guidance from the information available, I'll refund your $25 consultation fee.
Refunds are not generally provided after a completed consultation simply because you disagree with my assessment or ultimately choose a different course of action.
Have an HVAC question or something you'd like me to look at?
Send me what you have. I'll review it first and let you know whether I believe I can help before accepting payment.
